Do protruding or misshapen ears bother you or your child? At Eos Rejuvenation, we understand how this common problem can cause embarrassment and seriously affect your self-esteem.

Whether the result of a defect from birth or disfigurement arising from an injury, ear surgery, known as Otoplasty, can dramatically improve the shape, position or proportion of the ear, with immediately visible results. Correction of even minor deformities can have profound benefits to appearance and self-confidence.

Benefits Of Otoplasty

Otoplasty in Beverly Hills can be used to improve the appearance of ears that became misshapen during trauma or injury, as well as defects in ear structure that may have been present since birth. Otoplasty surgery can also correct ears that are overly large, ears that are protruding, and previous ear surgeries that may not have met patients’ expectations.

People who are interested in improving the appearance of their ears with otoplasty can schedule a consultation with Dr. Nima to learn if they are ideal candidates for this procedure.

Is Otoplasty Right For You?

During your initial consultation, Dr. Nima will carefully examine your ear structure and consult with you as to your desired outcome. He will then design a customized plan for cosmetically reshaping your ears in which the upper ear fold is recreated, and the overdeveloped middle portion of the ear is set back or reduced. All are meticulously mapped out beforehand by Dr. Nima, with an artistic eye focused on creating a natural ear shape that brings balance and proportion to your ears and face.

An Otoplasty is performed under general anesthesia for children over the age of 6 and under “twilight” anesthesia for adults. Incisions are generally made on the back surface of the ear. Dr. Nima takes great care in his surgical technique to avoid an unnatural “pinned-back” appearance.

What Is The Recovery From Otoplasty Like?

Full recovery from otoplasty generally takes about six weeks, though swelling usually goes away within one to two weeks. After surgery, a heavily padded cotton bandage is wrapped around the ears and head to reduce swelling and discomfort. This dressing will be removed by Dr. Nima the following day and replaced with a lighter bandage that will be worn for another three days.

Otoplasty patients can resume washing their hair after the lighter bandage is removed and resume normal daily activities such as work and school on the fifth day after surgery. Dr. Nima may suggest wearing a soft headband that covers the ears to help them maintain their shape during the weeks of healing and recovery.

Beverly Hills patients are sent home with a head dressing that is removed by Dr. Nima the following day and replaced with a comfortable, lighter dressing which is then worn for the next 3 days. You can wash your hair after the third day and return to your normal daily life by around the fifth day. Although some swelling can last for 1-2 weeks, the near immediate results are visible as soon as the dressings are removed!

Otoplasty Frequently Asked Questions

Swelling from otoplasty can last up to two weeks, while residual swelling may continue for up to six weeks. After otoplasty, patients should sleep on their backs with their heads elevated as much as possible to avoid putting pressure on the ears. This sleeping position can reduce discomfort and resolve bruising and swelling much sooner to accelerate healing.

Beverly Hills patients who have recently had otoplasty may want to try sleeping in recliners to keep their heads elevated or use at least two pillows while sleeping in bed. Large, high-backed pillows can also be used to protect the ears while recovering from otoplasty.

Babies under the age of 6 weeks have pliable cartilage in their ears—meaning their protruding ears can often be easily flattened and reshaped using nonsurgical techniques such as taping, splinting, and molding. However, ear cartilage stiffens shortly after birth to make it more difficult to reshape the ears using nonsurgical methods.

Patients interested in having otoplasty with Dr. Nima in Beverly Hills can openly discuss their concerns about surgery during the initial consultation. Dr. Nima will address these concerns and answer any questions and develop an individualized plan for each patient that focuses on creating a natural ear shape that complements and balances the face.

Ears can be reshaped during otoplasty, as well as repositioned and proportioned to result in a more natural shape. Beverly Hills patients who have ears that were misshapen at birth or from injury often seek otoplasty to enhance both their appearance and self-esteem.

During the initial consultation before an otoplasty, Dr. Nima evaluates the appearance of the ears so he can develop a customized plan for the reshaping process. Reshaping involves recreating the upper ear fold and reducing the middle portion of the ear that may be overdeveloped. Since everyone’s ears are shaped differently, each surgical plan is customized to fit the individual.
