The lift lip is a simple procedure that can yield significant, confidence-boosting results. Here is an overview of what you can expect from the process.

The Consultation

Your journey will begin with a one-on-one consultation, allowing you to talk with Dr. Nima about your aesthetic goals and learn more about what a lift lip entails. During this appointment, Dr. Nima will perform a physical evaluation and ask you some questions about your medical history, ensuring you are a good candidate for a safe and successful procedure. Additionally, he will answer any questions about the surgery, anesthesia options, recovery, and results.

Your upper lip will be measured at 5 different points to assess for symmetry and how much lip is to be lifted.  A sample drawing will be made to show you the anticipated results.

What Should I Do in Preparation?

The surgery is usually simple and quick, because it is done under local anesthesia to minimize discomfort. Before your procedure, our team will provide more information about the steps you need to take to prepare, including discontinuing certain medications or supplements that may compromise your ability to heal.  Antibiotics will be given to prevent infection as well.

Other Things to Consider Before Getting a Lift Lip

Can a Lip Lift Help With an Asymmetrical Upper Lip?

An upper lip lift works very well to fix asymmetries of the upper lip.  Typically, this means that:

  • One half of the cupid’s bow is lower than the other
  • One lip line is higher or lower than the other
  • One side of the lip is more full than the other

Dr. Nima can carefully remove more skin from one side of the lip compared to the other in order to achieve a more symmetrical upper lip.

What If Fillers Don’t Work to Lift My Upper Lip?

In patients with thinner lips, there is a limit to how much filler can be added before the upper lip starts to look off or odd.  Typically, overfilled lips tend to project forward from the side, causing a duck-like appearance.  Filler can also travel above the lip line to cause fullness in the white part of the lip, indicating that someone has had lip filler.  If you have experienced an unnatural look from fillers and just cannot achieve the balance you are looking for, then a lip lift could be indicated for a better outcome and look.

What If My Upper Lip Is Thin?

An upper lip lift will help expose more of your upper lip to bring balance and proportion to the lips.  Typically the lower lip should be a little larger than the upper lip.  Lifting the upper lip when it is thin will achieve this better balance and proportion.

Getting a lip lift may not completely get rid of the need to have fillers.  You may still want to have some filler to get as close to your ideal result as possible.  It will require less filler and the outcome will be superior than if you did not do a lip lift at all.

Will It Make Me Look Younger?

The short answer is yes.  As we age, the upper lip tends to get longer revealing another sign of aging.  In a more youthful upper lip, the upper lip is shorter and with more of a pout.  As time goes on, the upper lip gets longer, the red lip gets thinner and more of the teeth become hidden behind the aging upper lip.  A successful upper lip lift will reveal the bottom of the front 4 teeth when the lips are slightly parted.  It will make the patient look younger.  Best of all, it is such a subtle procedure that other people may comment that you look younger, but cannot put their finger as to why.
